Senior Hezbollah leader Sheikh Muhammad Ali Hamadi killed, shot outside his home in Lebanon – #INA

Senior Hezbollah commander Sheikh Mohammed Ali Hamadi was shot dead outside his home in the Machghara area of Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. According to reports, unidentified gunmen fired six bullets at Hamadi. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Hamadi was a prominent Hezbollah figure and was on the FBI’s most wanted terrorists list for his involvement in the 1985 hijacking of a TWA airliner from Athens to Rome.

In this incident, 153 passengers and crew members were taken hostage and one American passenger was tortured and murdered. The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah is about to expire. The report further mentions that Lebanese authorities have launched an investigation. Preliminary findings have ruled out a political motive behind the murder, suggesting that the murder may have been due to a years-long family feud.

Killed before the end of the ceasefire

Hamadi’s killing comes at a time when tensions have risen in the region, and a 60-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah is about to expire. Under this agreement, Israel is to withdraw troops from southern Lebanon by January 26, while Hezbollah is to retreat north of the Litani River. Under the ceasefire agreement signed on November 27, Hezbollah must immediately surrender its weapons in southern Lebanon, while Israel must withdraw its forces within 60 days and hand over control to the Lebanese Army and UN peacekeepers.

However, Israel has withdrawn from only two of the many cities under its control in southern Lebanon. Additionally, it has continued airstrikes on Hezbollah targets, accusing the group of launching rockets and moving weapons to avoid being seized and destroyed.

Thousands of lives have been lost in the war

1.2 million Lebanese have been displaced during the war. Hezbollah, which has been significantly weakened after nearly 14 months of conflict, has warned that if Israel fails to completely withdraw its forces by the 60-day deadline set in the ceasefire agreement, it will again Will start a fight. The ongoing conflict has displaced more than 1.2 million Lebanese and 50,000 Israelis. Lebanese authorities have reported more than 3,700 deaths, mainly civilians, as a result of the Israeli bombing campaign, while more than 130 Israelis have been killed.
